"AP Biology students have successfully transformed bacteria so that they glow green under UV light! This lab used genetically engineered plasmids - bacterial DNA - which contained genes for antibiotic resistance and the green fluorescent protein [GFP]. The GFP gene originates in a glowing jellyfish and is routinely used as a trace marker in genetic engineering. The students were really successful in transforming the bacteria and using the heat shock treatment method." Thank you to Mrs. Bowden for the explanation.
We snuck into an AP Biology lesson!
