Students Attend European Global Issues Network Conference
Posted 21/03/2016 05:35PM

Eight TASIS England upper school students travelled to Luxembourg for  the 2016 European Global Issues Network (GIN) Conference, held on March 17-19. Organized by the International School of Luxembourg and hosted by the Chamber of Commerce, the conference focused on the theme “Caring For Humanity, Our Duty.

Collaborating with 300 students from 28 high schools around the world, the TASIS representatives engaged in discussions designed to develop an increased awareness of the global issues presented in Jean-François Rischard's book, High Noon: 20 Global Problems, 20 Years To Solve Them.

During the conference, students heard from speakers such as Jasmin O’Hara of The Worldwide Tribe, Aaron Jones, co-founder of Fikay Eco Fashion, and two refugees from Iraq who are currently residing in Luxembourg, Hind and Raed. TASIS students also gave three separate presentations on the topics of the refugee crisis, human trafficking, and the digital divide, sharing their knowledge, action plans, and experience.

Throughout the past year, the TASIS students developed connections with the International Rescue Committee, the NO Project, and Everyday Ambassador. In addition, they created their take-action plan for the coming year, based on the slogan “think globally, act locally.” The GIN club hopes to bring speakers to campus and hold events that will focus on developing the TASIS community’s understanding of the refugee crisis. They also intend to collaborate with lower and middle school students to raise their awareness and participation.
