Thorpe Community link held the annual Christmas Afternoon Tea in December for local elderly residents. As guests gathered in the Salon, students and staff presented a sumptuous array of finger sandwiches and cakes made by headmaster’s wife, Mrs. McBrien. Students mingled with the guests and admired a photographic exhibition by an eleventh grade IB student.
As everyone was getting into the holiday spirit, the boarding students particularly enjoyed interacting in a family atmosphere. One student commented, “I don’t get to see my grandparents very often as they live abroad, so having contact with the local elderly residents is great fun!”
As it was time to leave, each student gave out individual gifts and cards to the guests and wished them a Merry Christmas. Sarah, (11th grade) is already looking forward to the next Tea saying:“In February the students bake all of the food, and we have an extra special silver service tea with many more people, I am really excited about taking part in that!”
Thorpe Community Link builds strong relationships with local residents, and in addition to inviting them to events at the school, students offer to help the less-able in many ways including, clearing snow and leaves from the pathways, going to visit people whose families live far away, and generally being hospitable neighbors.
