A group of our students is attending the Model United Nations Conference 2018 in Barcelona. The three-day conference intends to raise awareness about global issues, incite inquirer students to take action, and provide a great bonding experience in a beautiful city with much to offer!

An enthusiastic team of students, parents, and faculty did their part to make our Thorpe neighbourhood more beautiful! They ventured out on Monday after school and returned with many bags full of litter found around Thorpe.

rt and IB Year 1 ToK students visited the Tate Modern gallery on Tuesday, 6 November as part of their TOK unit on "Art" or their IB Art class. Prior to the trip, students explored contrasting concepts of beauty by reading excerpts by Leo Tolstoy, George Santayana, and John Dewey. During their time at the gallery they engaged with ethical questions raised by some artworks and considered to what extent art carries a social responsibility.

Grade 4 and 3 students members of the Friends of Fleming Garden Club learned how to harvest and press flowers and plants with the help of Mrs. Nguyen. Using these materials, they managed to make cards and bookmarks that they personally designed.

TASIS England Lower School celebrated Language during the Lower School Mother Tongue Assembly. Students shared idioms and tongue twisters in their own language and celebrated what it is like to grow up with languages that some of their classmates had never heard before.

TASIS has an extensive international community. We embrace and support diversity and inclusion, and we respect other cultures and their particular ways of living. Recently our Middle School celebrated the European Day of Languages with a special Town Hall meeting--a student-led assembly celebrating the different languages represented in our Middle School.

On October 3, SIX incredible, astounding, marvelous, TASIS England students had tea and cakes with the Head of School while discussing the ways they are shaping and reshaping our community and the larger world. They complimented and laughed with (and at) one another and solved world issues from bitcoin to diabetes.

On Wed, 26 September, Janne Ritskes from The Tabitha Foundation in Cambodia came and spoke to all of the TASIS Economics students.  She recounted the trauma caused by the Vietnam War and the Pol Pot Regime and helped the students understand the legacy of this period on the people of Cambodia today.

The Peru Club organized a "Walk for a Cause." The group of students and teachers took a walk at 7:15 a.m. on September 19. The objective of this action is to support by raising awareness and money for the "Sacred Valley Project," a charity that provides boarding houses for teenage girls in the Andean region of Peru.

As part of the study of optics, students got a chance to learn something about the inside of their eyes using just a tape measure and a pixelated image as shown. From a sufficient distance you don't notice the pixels and you see a boy's face, give it a try yourself!

Alameer, Grade 12, became a "celebrity" this summer in the Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for winning a gold certificate in the UK Math Trust Challenge (UKMT). Not only that, Alameer was the best in the year group!

Seventeen TASIS tenth grade students recently participated in a 12 day trip to the Balkans as part of the TASIS Leadership Academy (TLA). These students have been attending weekly seminar sessions since January as part of their leadership development, culminating in this unique tour designed to further their leadership skills. Students were engaged in a variety of experiences and will return in the fall to complete a capstone leadership project at TASIS in their 11th year.

The 2018 Graduation Ceremony and Banquet were punctuated with great speeches and inspirational thoughts, our students conducted themselves with great poise and confidence, the vibe around the campus was electric, and the beauty of our surroundings shone wonderfully in the sunlight.

TASIS was again delighted to host ISST Golf this year, once gaining enjoying the superb facilities at Pine Ridge Golf Course in Camberley. With over sixty young golfers representing eleven international schools from all over Europe, the tournament is one of the few ISST events that provides the opportunity for male and female athletes to compete against each other.

AP Biology students have successfully transformed bacteria so that they glow green under UV light! This lab used genetically engineered plasmids - bacterial DNA - which contained genes for antibiotic resistance and the green fluorescent protein [GFP].

The BBC visited TASIS England Recently, the BBC visited our campus to interview our Middle and Lower School students and get their advice for Meghan Markle on her new life. Meghan, an American citizen, is moving to the UK. Most of our students already have experienced this move, so they have many tips on how to adjust and enjoy British life.

On April 12, eight universities visited our campus to meet the Upper School students and their parents. These were Cardiff Metropolitan University, University of Surrey, University of Sussex, Dundee University, Kings College London, Richmond the American University in London, Arts University Bournemouth, and University of New South Wales, Australia.

AP Recognition Week! 21 AP Scholars, all seniors, have been honored for their stellar academic achievements on AP (Advanced Placement) exams in the past few years. AP classes are university-level courses in a range of academic subjects.

Congratulations to TASIS England senior Madeleine B! During the February school break, Maddy won the silver medal in the Olympic Skeet Junior Ladies Category at the Qatar Open, scoring 108 out of 125 points.

Yesterday, a group of Grade 11 students organized a fun auction. TASIS England staff & faculty donated the most original products to be auctioned. The proceeds, totaling almost £400, will go to JDRF(Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation). Students bid to be a Principal for a Day, removing the worst grade of a subject during one term, shaving the beard of Mr. Bowser, cupcakes, Spanish tortilla, cookies, a homework pass, etc. Thank you to the organizers, the donors, and the bidders!

A group of 14 TASIS students is representing our school at The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN) event. This five-day conference for secondary school students simulates the United Nations. The event takes place at the end of January each year in the World Forum Convention Center in The Hague. This amazing experience enables students to interact with colleagues from more than 100 countries in a real political scenario, and talk about the same global issues that are on the agenda of the world leaders.

Yesterday evening, Robert Swan and his son Barney visited our campus to talk about how they are working to achieve their dream, to make the planet a better place. This year's Community Read culminated in an assembly during which students had the opportunity to interview the renowned author Jennifer Chambliss Bertman. During the holidays, all of the middle schoolers read her New York Times bestseller, Book Scavenger. The adventure tells the story of 12-year-old Emily and her friend James, who race to unravel a mystery by solving puzzles, clues, ciphers, and other challenges.

Four of our Upper School students enjoyed tea time with Mr. Nixon and Mr. Tragas this week. This is a great way to celebrate success outside of the classroom. Lily loves theater, but also sings and dances. She owns her own Shakespeare company and has participated in numerous plays on campus and in other theaters. Ben has been a member of the Great Britain tennis team since he was 11. He is currently the highest ranked GB boy for his age internationally. Sean was a National Merit Scholarship semi-finalist and he is a TASIS England cross-country star. We recently saw him playing bass at a school concert. And Phil made history becoming the youngest ever top 10 finishers in the world famous Le Mans 24 Hour Race this year. One of the biggest compliments a school can receive from its students was summarized in the words of Phil who said, "The reason my family and I chose TASIS England was for their support in my passion for racing." Congratulations to all of you!

Currently, Robert and Barney Swan are making their way to the South Pole, using only renewable energy. Robert is answering some questions from students around the world by voice message. Today, he answered a question from one of our own students, Theo B., who is in fourth grade. Theo asked, "How hard was it to train for this life threatening experience?"

On November 15th, the Peru Club, a group of 27 students and 7 faculty members congregated at 7:30am (a late start day) in Monks Walk and did a 1-hour walk to raise awareness for the plight of Peru's Andean children who have to walk an average of 4 hours each day to and from school.

October Travel Week 2017 ended but the memories of these trips will always be with our students. This year, destinations included Spain, Greece, Portugal, UK, Romania, Germany, Austria and Italy.

On Wednesday, October 4, we had a special Lower School Assembly. It was a dedication ceremony for the Lower School Little Free Library. Little Free Library is a non-profit organization that inspires a love of reading, builds community, and sparks creativity. Their motto is Take a Book – Return a Book. Children are encouraged to share their favorite books through this book exchange.

Tryouts for the Upper School 2017 fall season began at TASIS yesterday with over two-hundred students participating in sports such as volleyball, soccer and cross country. The purpose of the team tryouts and selection process is to ensure that all players receive a fair opportunity to join a team of their peers possessing similar game skills.
